Vision:  Earth Day 2012 envisions a just and sustainable world.

Earth Day 2012 is a collaboration between City Repair and ASPCC - Cascade!

Mission:  Through Earth Day in 2012, we are sharing strategies for our community to take part in creating a sustainable life for all of the earth's inhabitants.

City Repair is collaborating this year with the Associated Students of Portland Community College (ASPCC) to bring you this year's Earth Day 2012 Interactive Event!

We also encourage you to check out Earth & Spirit Council's Earth Conference 2012, happening Friday April 20 - Saturday, April 21. Between the two events, it's a full Earth Weekend!

Earth Day 2012 will feature:

·    Over 70 local organizations making the earth a better place
·    Valet bike parking:  ooh la la!
·    Native plant creation station by Expeditious Earthscapes
·    A battery recycling station (thanks, Jim!)
·    Main stage of live music and entertainment by Abstract Earth
·    Acoustic stage with local talent by Camp Cascadia
·    Circus Cascadia - engagement for kids of all ages
·    Food and beverage vendors
·    Interactive workshops and classes
·    1,500 to 3,000 attendees throughout the day
·    Participation in the billion acts of green challenge

Earth Day Event Map

We know that putting on a big event like City Repair's Earth Day PDX 2012 leaves a footprint. We have partnered with Pacific Power to offset that footprint by purchasing Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) from their Blue Sky program. This purchase will more than equal our collective impact for the event. Our REC purchase has the equivalent environmental benefit of avoiding over 6000 tons of CO2 from entering the atmosphere, equal to not driving a car 6143 miles. Lower your footprint by stopping by the Blue Sky booth during the event to get energy efficiency tips and enroll your home into their renewable energy program.

This year, the Master Recycler for Earth Day PDX 2012 is Mitzi Sugar.  She will lead a group of volunteers who will educate themselves while guiding the event goers to reduce, reuse, and recycle while minimizing waste at the event.  She is also helping us put together a plan to reduce our waste before the event even begins!

We are all in this together, and you can do your part, too.  You can get involved by volunteering; just fill out this form and then sign up for shifts here.  Bringing your own water bottle and utensils and being mindful of your personal waste stream will make a big impact, too.  Help us to reduce our impact this day and every day.  Thank you for participating!

If you would like to support our free community Earth Day event, we would welcome your support.
