City Repair is not producing Earth Day Portland 2013

City Repair has produced an Earth Day in Portland every year since partnering with Earth and Spirit Council in 1999. That first one was in Pioneer Square, and we coordinated Hands Across Portland and shared tea around the T-Horse. Since then, we have introduced new elements like Fair Trade Music, solar powered stages, carbon offsets and kids' parades.
It was a tough decision this year. The sad fact is that not enough people stepped up to be coordinators, and not enough coordinators returned from last year. City Repair's Earth Day is run almost entirely by volunteers.
In recent years, there has also been a service-learning component. When faced with a choice between forging ahead without enough support or taking a break for a year, we decided that we only wanted to produce an event if we would have enough support for the wonderful organizations and people that make Earth Day so special.
We hope to produce an Earth Day event next year with your help. If you are interested in being a part of Earth Day 2014, please contact us and let us know at earthday@cityrepair.org.
